Accurate Provisionals

Everybody’s mouth is unique. Many subtle factors affect appearance and comfort of restorations. Far too often what looks good on the model looks far from good in the mouth.

The provisional acts as the physical blueprint. It also maintains the position of the teeth until the time when the final crown or fixed appliance is delivered. THE PROVISIONAL IS THE MAJOR COMMUNICATION TOOL between the patient, doctor, and our lab. Accurate reproduction of the provisional would assure non-bulky appearance, proper function, and patient satisfaction.

It just makes sense to use, as a guide, the shape of a provisional appliance that the patient is wearing and is acceptable to everybody. You can measure the thickness to confirm adequate reduction for proper material thickness (ie. 1½ millimeters for a porcelain over metal occlusal surface).

Take your impression of the prepared teeth and another impression with the “approved provisional” in place in the mouth.

We have refined this procedure to be able to confidently say that we CAN CONSISTENTLY REPRODUCE THE SHAPE.
